Harold Llewellyn Geisse

Harold Llewellyn Geisse, Jr., 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 17, 2015, at the Good Shepherd Fairview Home. He was born on December 12, 1923, in Wausau, Wisconsin, the son of Harold Geisse, Sr. and Winifred (Merrill) Geisse. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Elaine (Geisse) Murray. Harold graduated from Wausau High School and then attended Phillips Exeter Academy before enlisting in the Army for World War II. He served in the Pacific and was honorably discharged with the rank of Seargent. After the war, he attended Princeton University and was a member of the Class of 1949. He then attended Harvard University, where he received a Master's Degree. After graduating, he lived in New York City and worked in advertising. In the early 1970s, he returned to complete a Master's in Library Science at Columbia University and then took a position as a Reference Librarian at Binghamton University in 1973, from which he retired in 1989. He had a lifelong interest in philosophy, history, and literature and was a keen audiophile with a passion for classical music and opera. He also enjoyed movies, particularly foreign films, and returned to New York City frequently for concerts and the theater. He traveled extensively, by motorcycle in the U.S. and later in a succession of trips to Europe. Ever the gentleman, he had a puckish sense of humor. Never married, he is survived by a nephew, Robert Murray of New Orleans, Louisiana, and a niece, Martha (Murray) Roy of Delafield, Wisconsin who are very grateful for the excellent care he received at Good Shepherd Fairview Home of Binghamton. At his request funeral services will be private.
