Loretta J. Gordon Smith, 78, passed away peacefully on November 8th, 2014. She was a loving mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her family was her pride and joy. Loretta was known to those around her by “Joanne”, “Red”, and “the Princess”. She was bright in the lives of all that knew her by sharing her love and kindness. Loretta had the wonderful ability to start a conversation with anyone she met and quickly befriended them. Some of the things she enjoyed in life include; all things Betty Boop, reading the National Enquirer, daytime talk shows, and many hours of talking on the phone to family and friends. She will be forever remembered for wearing her BIG sunglasses and matching accessories including the shoestring bow on her upsweep hairdo, her off-color sense of humor, and mostly for her infectious laughter that could make anyone smile on a rainy day.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ruth Gordon, her infant son Charles “Chuckie” Smith, daughter, Deborah J. Doi, and her grandson, Jordan Smith Sr. Loretta is survived by her children Charlene(Richard) Berry of Binghamton, Denny (Holly) Smith of Glen Aubrey, Cynthia Smith of Binghamton, Perry Smith of Endicott, and Dante(Rebecca)Smith of Endwell, brothers; John “Jackie” Gordon of Hartford, Connecticut, Robert (Jean) Gordon of Newark Valley and Daniel (Carol) Gordon of Endicott. Loretta was also the loving grandmother of 18 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Loretta’s family would like to extend their gratitude to Willow Point Nursing Home for caring for and loving Loretta while she resided there.
Memorial services will be held 12:00pm, Thursday, November 13, 2014 at the DeMunn Funeral Home, 36 Conklin Avenue, Binghamton with the Reverend Alfred Bebel officiating. Interment will follow services in Calvary Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00am until the time of services.
