Alice Kiley passed away on August 3, 2014. Alice was a graduate of Binghamton Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1954. She skillfully and lovingly cared for many patients during her 50 year career as a Registered Nurse. She worked at Harpur College, Broome County Catholic Charities, several local hospitals and had private duty patients. She touched the lives of many people in her role as Charge Nurse for Lourdes Hospice inpatient program in the 1980's and 90's, where she helped families through difficult losses and educated them about death and grief. Alice was a fan of opera, classic film, literature and classical music. She was drawn to convert to Roman Catholicism as a teenager, after which the rest of her family also converted. She had a deep devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and said the rosary nearly every day of her life. Alice will be remembered as a kind and generous-spirited woman who always thought of others before herself.
She was a loving and caring Mother and Grandmother to her 8 children, 17 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband John (Jack) Kiley and her parents Mary & Leighton Balcom. She is survived by her 8 children, Mary Kiley, Michael (Patti) Kiley, Kevin (Erika) Kiley, Kathleen (James) Miner, Daniel (Michele) Kiley, David Kiley, Bridget (Anthony) Caletka and Patrick Kiley; her brother Leighton Balcom Jr, her sister Arlene Berry, her sister-in-law Joan Kiley,. She is also survived by her 17 grandchildren Nathaniel (Briana) Rogers, John Rogers, Joel Rogers, Whitney Kiley, Kati (Paul) White, Staci Kiley, Aidan Kiley, Aaron Kiley, Joseph (Francine) Hernandez, Maxwell McCray, Kingsley McCray, Kendall McCray, Thomas Kiley-Miner, Sean Kiley, Ryan Kiley, Quintin Caletka, Shannon Caletka, 5 great grandchildren Gabriel Rogers, Genevieve Rogers, Nolan Rogers, Nash White, Theodore Hernandez, many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 am, Friday, August 8, 2014 at St Mary's Assumption Church, 29 Fayette Street, Binghamton. Interment will follow services in Calvary Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to services. Please, in lieu of flowers make donations in her name to Lourdes Hospice.
