Anne Elizabeth McCard died Monday, June 30, 2014 at the Bridgewater Center, Binghamton, NY. She was born Aug. 21, 1919 in Nelson, PA, the daughter of Walter F. and Jessica Hoyt Thompson.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, George and Virginia Gibson of Fairport, NY; brother and sister-in-law, William and Mary Thompson of Breinigsville, PA; sister-in-law, Ellen Thompson and nephew, Michael Thompson of Churchton, MD; niece, Judith Thompson of Avondale Estates, GA; nephews, Warren Thompson of Knoxville, TN and Steven Thompson of Sinkng Spring, PA; several great and great-great nephews, nieces and loyal friend, Donald Brister. A memorial service will be held at a date and time to be announced.
Ms. McCard, an avid reader, lover of wild flowers, gardener, and amateur artist, worked for a variety of organizations: insurance, retail, Red Cross and others, eventually having her own shop where she made and sold candles. She was active in a number of organizations, including the DAR, 4-H, arts and crafts organizations, and was a member of the Unitarian-Universalist Congregation of Binghamton. She was a good listener, helping countless numbers of people, especially when volunteering on a crisis hot-line. Ms. McCard was an advocate for many Bridgewater residents and served several years as a floor representative, offering a voice for others.
