Elizabeth Shaw Hogan

March 5, 1940 — June 17, 2014

Elizabeth Shaw Hogan, 74, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2014. Beth lived in Binghamton for 50 years, raised three sons who each served in the U.S. Army and she taught New York's children for over 35 years. Her fortitude, her wit, and her playfulness were the best lesson and lasting gift she gave to all who knew her, especially her children and her students. Music was in her soul and those who knew her could hear it, whether she played guitar, fiddle, banjo, or concertina. Thank you for the lessons, for the love, and for the music. She is predeceased by her husband, Richard. Elizabeth is survived by her children; Joel Shattan of Yukon, Oklahoma, Mark Shattan of New Canaan, Connecticut, Michael Shattan of Charlottesville, Virginia, Martha Hogan-Battisti of Swedesboro, New Jersey and Susan Hogan of Walnut Creek, California. She leaves behind ten treasured grandchildren, brother, Harley Denio of Hillsboro, Oregon and sister, Mary Garcia of Lancaster, Massachusetts. Memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 5th, 2014, at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Binghamton, 183 Riverside Drive, Binghamton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Binghamton Youth Symphony or the Binghamton Humane Society. To forward condolences please visit www.demunnfh.com.
