Our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Hubert McGavin, 91, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2014. Hugh is survived by his wife of 64 years, Phyllis, his children; Deborah McGavin and Millie Montgomery, Baldwinsville, Janice and Jan Yuricek, Endicott, Phillip and Rose McGavin, Rolesville, North Carolina, Sharon and Mark Vitanza, Conklin and Marcia and Stephen Valenti, Binghamton, treasured grandchildren; Ryan, Jeff and Peter Yuricek, Amanda and Shawne MacCloud, April McGavin, Jason and Elizabeth Vitanza, Zachary, Lauren, Chloe and Joey Danvers, Joe, Christian and Angela Valenti and great granddaughter, Keely MacCloud. He leaves behind siblings; Regina Sullivan, Thomas McGavin and Susann Falkin and his best friend, Eddie Zyskowski.
Hugh served his country during WWII in the Army Air Corps. After returning home he worked and eventually retired from Singer Link after many years as Senior Industrial Engineer. He was a longtime member of Saints John and Andrew RC Church and was very active in the Knights of Columbus, Peter T. Campon Council #206 where he served in various positions. Hugh was an avid sportsman who loved golfing and hunting. Hugh’s family would like to thank the staff of Elizabeth Church Manor Nursing Home for their kind and attentive care.
Funeral services will begin 10:30 am, Friday, March 14, 2014 at the DeMunn Funeral Home, 36 Conklin Avenue, Binghamton and will continue with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at Saints John and Andrew Church, 1262 Vestal Avenue, Binghamton by the Reverend Monsignor Michael T. Meagher. Interment will follow services in Calvary Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00 until 7:00 pm, Thursday, March 13, 2014.
