Deborah J. Doi

December 25, 1954 — February 4, 2014

Deborah J. Doi, 59, passed away suddenly February 4, 2014. Deborah cherished her family. They were her world. Deborah loved being out in the sun, tending to her garden, pulling weeds, filling birdfeeders with her grandson or simply relaxing in the warmth. She enjoyed collecting angels. She must have known she would fly amongst them. Deborah’s deep caring for others radiated into every moment of her day. She loved building big towers with her grandson, daily visits with her mother in the nursing home, keeping a beautiful and comfortable home for her family, exchanging monthly letters in the mail with her out of town uncle, helping others in any way she could. She was always doing for others. Deborah’s calling in life was providing for and serving others, she spent the last fourteen years working with adults with intellectual disabilities. It was truly her niche in life. She will always be remembered for her quiet kindness, her spunky humor, her gentle soul, her shy smile and laugh and her willingness to give unconditionally. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Yoshihiro, children; Daniel Doi, Binghamton and Kristina Doi, Binghamton, treasured grandson, Ryder Ely, who was the apple of her eye, mother, Loretta Smith, Vestal, father and stepmother, Lawrence and Kathie Smith, Whitney Point, siblings; Cindy Smith, Binghamton, Charlene and Richard Berry, Centreville, Va., Denny and Holly Smith, Lisle, Perry Smith, Endicott and Dante and Rebecca Smith, Endwell. She leaves behind Ryder’s father; Ryan Ely, Endicott; special friend, Joanne, her furry companion, Lila and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and close friends. Funeral services will be private. Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a harder battle.
