Augusta Debuzna

March 26, 1922 — December 1, 2013

Augusta “Gussie” deBuzna, 91, passed away peacefully Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Elizabeth Church Manor. Gussie was a creative, kind and loving person who adored working with children. She was predeceased by her nephew, Arthur Saegeman. Gussie is survived by niece, Lillian Saegeman, great-niece, Els Stroppe, great great-nephew, Maxim Stroppe and great great-niece and godchild, Cato Stroppe all of Tielrode, Belgium. She leaves behind close friends Brenda Balch (her daughters, Candace Klehr, Cynthia Mohrman and Andrea Balch), Roberta Bills, Sarah Haddow, Rosalie Roth, all of Binghamton, Joanna Hennekens, Vestal and many friends at Saint Louise Manor, Elizabeth Church Manor and in the community. Gussie was a graduate of Binghamton’s North High School and Cortland State Teachers College. She was employed by the Binghamton City School District for more than 40 years. She taught at Calvin Coolidge and McArthur Schools, was a Teacher Consultant for Primary Grades K-3, served as Supervisor of Instruction for grades K-3 and Director of the Pre-kindergarten Program for the City School District. Gussie was a member of the Eastern Broome Branch of the NYS Retired Teachers Association and a longtime member of Saints John and Andrew Roman Catholic Church. The family wishes to thank the caring staff of Elizabeth Church for they did during Gussie’s stay. Funeral services will be held 12:00 pm, Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at the DeMunn Funeral Home, 36 Conklin Avenue, Binghamton with the Reverend Monsignor Michael T. Meagher officiating. Interment will be in Kattleville Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 am until the time of services.
