John Ray Transue, 66, died August 21, 2013.
He was the youngest son of the late William and Monique Transue. He was
predeceased by both his brothers, Jacques and Bill. John is survived by niece,
Emily Transue, nephews; Christopher (Adrienne Shapiro), Thomas (Janice Jones)
and Joe (Amy Thompson) Transue, and sister in law, Virginia Transue.
John grew up in Ohio but also lived in
France and Italy during his childhood. He graduated from Mt. Vernon (Ohio) High
School in 1966 and moved a few weeks later to Binghamton, NY, where his father
had accepted a teaching position. The town quickly became his home and
residence for the next 47 years excepting a few years back in Ohio for
college. John earned an Associates' Degree from Broome Community College,
a B.A from Wilmington College (Ohio), and a diploma from Ridley-Lowell School
of Business. He treasured Binghamton for the many people and places which
welcomed him and provided extended family to supplement his blood relatives.
He knew the city in the ways perhaps only one who never had a drivers' license
or a spouse might. And it knew him too. From the Regulars at Danny's
Diner on Main St. to those at the Catholic Charities Four Seasons Club, he
collected friends, many of whom came to know the familiar,
lovable, unassuming figure that he was. He was a long-time member of
Trinity Memorial Episcopal Church where he also formed many friendships.
He took many trips around the country and abroad, with others or on his
own, and collected stories and photos that were known and appreciated by those
close to him. But his standard was his own, and it was all that he and his
required. During his final years at Woodland and St. Louise Manors, he met many
residents and care-givers who quickly saw at least a little of what was behind
his glasses and unkempt beard. The luckier of us were often treated to samples
of the many wonderful thoughts that that bald head held. Where would Binghamton
and the world be if he had shared them all?
Memorial services will be held
2:00 pm, Saturday, Septeber7, 2013 at Trinity Memorial Episcopal Church, 44
Main Street, Binghamton with the Reverend Dr. David A. Drebert officiating.
John will be interred in the family plot in the state of Maine, next to his
parents and his brother, Jacques at a later date. Memorial contributions in
