Charles J. Sladky, Jr.

November 1, 1937 — June 21, 2013

Our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Charles “Charlie” Sladky, 76, passed away surrounded by his family, Friday, June 21, 2013.  Charlie was a kind, gentle person who was a friend to many. He has left a place which can never be filled in the hearts of family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Elizabeth (Rugala) Sladky, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rudolph and Mary Klacko, brothers-in-law, Peter Skala and Tony Klima and nephew, Joseph Skala. Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Jennie Klacko Sladky, and sons; David Sladky and Eleanor Zerbst, Vestal and Michael and Jamie Sladky, Westminster, Colorado, treasured grandchildren, John Ackley II, Chelsea Henkiel, Nicholas and Peter Sladky and  great grandson, Kaden Ackley.  He leaves behind sisters-in-law, Albina Skala, Clearwater, Florida and Helen Klima, Endwell, nieces and nephew, Arlene and Lorraine Skala, Anthony Klima, Sharon Rogers and many great cousins and friends.    Charlie served in the US Marine Corps and retired from the Binghamton Press after 41 years.  He also worked also in the Broome County Court System. He was lifelong member of Sts. John and Andrew Church, where he was a Eucharistic Minister and member of the Holy Name Society. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, painting, bowling and was an avid Redskins fan. Charlie played basketball for St. John’s CYO and several industrial teams. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Susquehanna Valley Mycological Society and Czechoslovak Morovan Club.      A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 am, Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Sts. John and Andrew RC Church, 1263 Vestal Avenue, Binghamton by the Reverend Monsignor Michael T. Meagher. Interment will follow services in Slovak Catholic Cemetery, Binghamton. Family will receive friends from 4:00 pm until 7:00pm Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at the DeMunn Funeral Home, 36 Conklin Avenue, Binghamton. In lier of flowers expressions of sympathy in Charlie’s name may be made to Sts.
