Lawrence A. “Pop, Father” Monahan, 72, passed away peacefully, June 19, 2013 with his family by his side. Larry was a strong willed stubborn man who loved his family and was always there to help whoever needed him. He was a veteran of the United States Army and the owner Brackney Auto from where he retired in 1993. Larry is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, I. Grace “Toni” Monahan, his step children: Jack (Carol) Neal of New Milford, PA, Marie (Scott) Ledford, Tyrone, GA, Mary (Bob) Brown, Binghamton and Jake (Michelle Samuals) Neal, Binghamton, grandsons Sean Neal, (whom “Pop” adored and was his heart and soul,), Rachel Kimble, Sean’s girlfriend, whom “Pop” thought the world of, Blake (Brianne) Neal, Endicott, Jacob Neal, USMC Camp Pendleton, Ca, and Shane Neal, New Milford, granddaughters; his little girl, Hollie Neal (fiancé ,Kyle Floto), Amy Neal, Tx.,”Father’s” girls, Sara and Hannah Ledford,Tyrone,Ga., great- grandchildren; Dawson M Neal (Pop Pop’s boy), Kadence Neal and Taryn Briggs. Larry leaves behind his brothers-in-law, Harry (Marie) Hankey, Pennellville NY, Alan (Karen) Hankey Fulton NY, and sister-in-law,Bessie Buchanan Binghamton, sisters; Ellen Shelp, Brackney, Mary Burns Winter Haven Fla., Martha (Phillip) Geertgens and Rita Monahan, Brackney, best friend, Harry (Barbara) Hattala, Binghamton and many nieces and nephews.
Larry had thought about his future prior to his death and had decided to donate his remains to the SUNY Upstate Medical Center. An informal celebration of his life will be held Saturday June 22, 2013 from 2pm until 6pm, at the Monahan residence. Please bring along a lawn chair, place setting and a dish to pass.
