Mary Hranek

September 29, 1927 — May 7, 2013

Mary Hranek, 85, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2013. She is now dancing the polka with her husband, Joe who left us in 2007. Mary’s family would like these remembrances of their Mom and Grandmother speak for them:   Rock solid whom all of the family revolved around Great cook, experimenting with varied recipes Allowed us to find our own way, never forced a path on us Never spoke of ill of anyone Taught kids to keep open mind to all things in life Did not have a mean bone in her body Sorely missed in our hearts forever -          Jim, son   She let me pick the peas (insert smiley face) Hot dogs in the splash pool Her car for date night Cabbage soup and apple strudel The best ham dinners Loans (helped me save my kids) Taking care of Jason for five months Being Mom to Stef Working so hard Care packages when I was in the Air Force All those bars of soap Making my favorites when I was home on leave Growing strawberries Being a caring Mom to me Her numerous kindnesses -          Dan, son   Combing you long hair as a child Stealing veggies from your garden All those birthday parties Your beautiful flowers Your fresh blackberry pie Sunday rides in the convertible Fireworks at the field days Swimming in Margeson’s Pond Your pork roast and potatoes Driving you Fiat on the lawn Our bird and critter watch at the farm The loving care you took of Kristin -          Gail, daughter -              Home fries for breakfast on the weekends Hranek Chicken Barbeque for our summer parties OUR HRANEK “COTTAGE CHEESE STUFF” Your cherry cobbler Your trademark excellent red cinnamon applesauce Teaching me the value of a good back scratch! Carrying water by buckets from the crick to water your gardens Caring for all of us even when you had no time for yourself Blueberry picking with the grandkids Eating 100”s tomatoes right off the vine- savings seeds to plant Lulling the grandbabies to sleep on your shoulder Delicious food especially the cinnamon nut rolls Fresh raspberries picked off the vine -          Bob, son   Platters of ice cold watermelon by the pool Grapes on the table always waiting when we visited Grilled cheese sandwiches, fresh trout from Harry Apple pie and homemade icing Big Christmas tree in the picture window Watching tennis, begging for a lifeguard out at the pool My love of cooking and baking came from watching  you -          Stef, granddaughter   Home-made playdough Walks in the woods Ladybugs in every windowsill Your gardens: peas, tomatoes, cukes and raspberries Your cooking: kolachki, halupki, kapusta soup Driving through flooded Franklin St. when I was three Playing Cosmic Wipe-out, Pitch and Phase 10 Dancing the polka with you and Grandpa at my wedding Thank you for, My first goldfish Giving me a patch of garden to call my own Saving me when I stole Grandpa’s tractor And drove it to the creek Teaching me to tie my shoes Getting me off to elementary school each morning Hosting my yearly birthday pool parties   You once jokingly asked me when I was a child if I would still love you when you were older and weaker, and I said yes. I will always love you and I am so grateful to have had you as my grandmother. -          Kristin Latini Benson   Mary’s family would like to thank her caregivers and friends at Woodland Manor.
