Frederick E. Riley

March 3, 1920 — April 9, 2013

   Frederick E. Riley, 93, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2013. Fred was a truly gentle man with a cute sense of humor and a positive outlook on life. He was a lifelong resident of Binghamton NY, most recently in the Good Shepherd-Fairview Apartments. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Betty Riley, in 2011, his parents, Leon and Edith Riley, his brother, Edson Riley and sister, Eleanor Gormly.    Fred is survived by his son, Thomas Chantry of Binghamton, daughter and son in law, Judy and Dave Clark of Binghamton, three grandsons; Tim and Anna Clark and their daughter Mary Ellen, of Raleigh, NC, Brian Clark and Michael Clark, both of Binghamton and several nieces and nephews.    Fred served during World War II in the US Army, Big Red One, 26th Regiment, K Company. He was awarded the Purple Heart. He fought in the Normandy invasion. After the war, Fred worked for the US Post Office. He was also employed by the Marine Midland bank. He served his church, Conklin Avenue First Baptist Church faithfully in many capacities including camping coordinator, craft night volunteer, youth group driver, usher and was active in the Southside Ecumenical Council. He was a Meals-on–Wheels volunteer for over 25 years.    Memorial services will be held  11:00am, Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Conklin Avenue First Baptist Church, 91 Baldwin Street, Binghamton  with the  Reverend Stephen Chastain officiating.  Family will receive friends from 9:30am until the time of services in the sanctuary of the church.
