Chester Surowka
of Johnson City
Chester Surowka, 95, was reunited with his wife in heaven, Saturday, January 7, 2012. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Genevieve Zamoytuk Surowka and sisters, Josephine Pocengal, Margaret Nolan, Rose Strange and Anne Figura, brothers; Harry and Carl and daughter-in-law, Virginia Surowka. He was born to Frank and Helena Frydryk Surwoka of Poland. Chester is survived by sons, John and Michael and daughter, Lorraine Sutton, sisters; Wanda Semo, Helen (William) Mizura, brothers; James, John and Stanley (Mary) and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Chester was an employee of Endicott Johnson and Ozalid. As a young man he was an acclaimed baseball pitcher who helped his team win the first state championship for the American Legion. He loved his baseball and was an avid fisherman who loved his many trips to the St. Lawrence River in Canada. Most of all he loved listening to his polka music.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at the DeMunn Funeral Home, 36 Conklin Avenue, Binghamton with the Reverend Monsignor Michael T. Meagher officiating.
