Abdulqadir M. Yousuf, PhD, passed away on December 2, 2011 after a brief illness following a long battle with brain injury caused by Carbon Monoxide poisoning. . He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was an open minded and devout Muslim, who exemplified this in his humanitarianism, charity, and kindness; the true values of Islam. Abdulqadir was predeceased by his wife, Jihan, and his first born son. He is survived by his son, Dr. M. Bashar Yousuf, daughter-in-law Geralyn, grandchildren Jasem, Ali Zein, and Zaynab. He leaves behind a brother-in-law, Abbas Tuqan of Damascus, Syria; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and students all over the world.
He was born in Taiba, Palestine in 1926. He received his basic and undergraduate education in Palestine during the British mandate. He went on to graduate studies at Indiana University where he earned his graduate degrees. He lived, worked and taught in many countries in the Arab world, Paris, France and Bloomington Indiana. He was an avid reader, educator, author, diplomat and an accomplished poet.
The family would like to thank his long time caretakers, Diana Curry, Antonietta Noce, Cathy Powers, Marianne Kertz, Candy Shevalier, Donna Severson, and Sherri Smith for their kindness and compassion. Special thanks to all of the physicians, nurses and staff at Wilson Memorial Hospital: Emergency Department, Decker CICU, and South Tower 3.
