Dawn A. Pierce

June 13, 1915 — October 21, 2011

Dawn A. Pierce of Conklin On Oct 21, 2011 in her 96th year, Dawn Pierce (nee Andrews) left her life’s journey as she lived it; with grace, dignity and in her own way. She will be greatly missed by all her family.  Her greatest legacy will be her four children and their families. Her son, Danny A. Pierce, of Conklin and the Adirondacks fulfilled his promise and cared for her at home through her last moments.  Dawn also lovingly raised three daughters: Donna Pierce Jones and Dan DeWitt of Binghamton and Easley, South Carolina and sons, A. Scott Jones and Dana L. Jones and their father, Lawrence R. Jones all of Harpursville, New York.  Her second born was Gail and Russell Gillespie of Montgomery, New York and sons; Jay and Russhell (Jacob and Matt), Mark and Michelle (Taylor and Owen) and Jerry Gillespie and Rachel of Hoboken, New Jersey. Her third and youngest daughter, Katheryn Pierce Dansby, resides in Easley, South Carolina with her husband, Dr. J. B. Dansby. Also surviving in this family branch are two granddaughters, Kimberly Vann and Kristen Day; their husbands, Major Lance Vann and Mr. Jason Day; and four great grandsons, Spencer Vann, Connor Vann, Palmer Vann and Owen Day. The Vann family resides at Incerlik Air Force Base in Adana, Turkey and the Day family resides in Orlando, Florida. Left to mourn her passing is a brother and his wife, Don and Dorothy Andrews of Knoxville, Tennessee and a sister, Nell O’Brien of Texas and their families.  A child of the depression, she placed great emphasis on her education which included becoming an honor graduate of Binghamton Central High School, Charles S. Wilson School of Nursing and State University College at Cortland with a BS in Health Education. She retired from the Susquehanna Valley High School after a long career as a health instructor and School Nurse Teacher. A lifelong resident of Conklin, New York she was also a world traveler, circumnavigating the globe more than once. She visited each of the United States, Canada, Mexico and spent a year living in Malaysia and Indonesia with Kathryn and J. B. At mother’s request there were no services. The family will gather to commemorate her spirit. She was interred in the Pierce family plot in the Conklin Cemetery. Her passing became her final journey and our thoughts and prayers accompanied her. May she rest in peace. To forward condolences please visit www.demunnfh.com.
