Joyce Hickling Littlefield

September 14, 1943 — October 9, 2011

Joyce Hickling Littlefield of Port Crane and Eustis, Florida Joyce was a 1961 graduate of Edmeston Central School where she graduated as Salutatorian.  She held a BA in political science from Alfred University and an MA in history from SUNY Cortland.  She was a sister of Alpha Kappa Omicron Sorority. She taught English and Social Studies at Earlville Central School.  She served as YWCA Program administrator for the YWCA, Binghamton, Executive Director of the Broome County Youth Bureau, and as the Program Director for the Johnson City Office of Mid New York where she coordinated Camp Superkids, the Tobacco Free Coalition, and various special events such as Health Hazards on the Farm and the Johnny Hart Celebrity Luncheon.  A dedicated environmentalist and bird watcher, Joyce was a member of  the Oklawaha Valley Audubon Society and The Trout Lake Nature Center both in Eustis FL, the Naturalists‘ Club of Broome County,  the National Audubon Society, The Sierra Club, and The Nature Conservancy.  She and her husband were “gardeners for wildlife.” Their concern for migratory songbirds inspired them to surround their Port Crane, NY home with bird-friendly habitats.   Joyce was a member of The Golden Triangle Democratic Club of Eustis/Mount Dora, and Tavares, FL and the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Lake County, FL.   Some of Joyce’s other interests were theater and opera, reading, bridge, and traveling. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Russell; a brother, Duane, of Chicago, IL; a sister and a brother-in-law, Lynette and Fred Dye of New Berlin, NY; a sister-in law and brother-in-law, Gloria and Dick Lenhart of Hamilton, NY; as well as three nieces, three nephews, a grandniece and grandnephew. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 15, 2011 at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 183 Riverside Drive, Binghamton in the Sanctuary.  Memorial contributions in Joyce’s name may be made  to the Naturalist’s Club of Broome County, PO Box 191, Vestal, NY; The Oklawaha Valley Audubon Society, PO Box 268, Eustis, FL 32727; or The Trout Lake Nature Center,PO Box 641, Eustis, FL 32727.
