Shirley was born 88 years ago on March 4, 1923 in the old EJ Medical Building in Johnson City, NY. Growing up in JC, she traveled briefly to Seattle during WWII when her husband, Don was stationed in the Navy there. She returned to the area and worked at Ansco for a number of years, then as a Supervisor in the Endicott-Johnson Tag Office for over 35 years before retiring in the late 80’s.“Shirl the Pearl” loved spending time at ‘the camp’ with her husband Don, her beloved dog Rusty, and all the folks who came to visit her there. She enjoyed many great times there with wonderful memories of songs around the campfire. A huge fan of singer Perry Como, it was the thrill of a lifetime for her to have met him in person at a concert at the Broome County Arena as a 70th birthday gift. She amazed everyone when she secretly and finally acquired her driver’s license when she was 65 years old. ‘Gramma Shirl’ was at her happiest and loved nothing more than spending time with her precious grandchildren, and would hug, squeeze, play with, and dote on them whenever she could. A tremendously devoted wife and mother, there was no one with a bigger or kinder heart than Shirley. She was deeply loved and admired by everyone who met her, and will be sorely missed. We would like to thank the wonderful staff (her ‘other family’) at ECM Nursing Home for the care and special attention they bestowed on our Mom & Grandmother during her stay there. The family invites friends and family to come celebrate Shirley’s Life from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Monday Night, May 23rd at DeMunn Funeral Home, 36 Conklin Ave,Binghamton, NY. She will then be reunited with her loving husband Don, on Tuesday morning, May 24th at 11:00 AM in Floral Park Cemetery in Johnson City, after a brief graveside service. The family wishes to thank everyone for all their kind words and condolences in respect and celebration of Shirley Janet Reynolds. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that any donations or contributions be sent in Shirley’s name to the BC Humane Society, 2 Jackson St, Binghamton, NY 13903. This is the wonderful facility where she adopted her beloved cocker spaniel and long time companion, Rusty, and any contributions will go toward helping others to experience the joy and love they provided for each other.
