                                    Mariam Hinckley Shaller                                           of Port DickinsonOur beloved mother and grandmother, Mariam Hinckley Shaller, 98, passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 20, 2011 surrounded by her family. Mariam was a teacher who has left an imprint on the lives of many; she kept in touch with family, students and friends, never forgetting birthdays and milestones. She was the matriarch of a large family that was the reason for her being; with whom she enjoyed traveling across all fifty states. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Robert L. Shaller, son, Douglas Shaller, parents, Taylor and Nellie Hinckley, sister, Marguerite Avery and nephew, Calvin Avery. Mariam is survived by her children, Robert T. and Carolyn Shaller, Binghamton, Mary L. Shaller, Toledo, Oregon, Marguerite (Marge) Shaller and Edward Leary, Port Dickinson and Roger and Mary C. Shaller, Port Dickinson; treasured grandchildren, Andy and Kristin Shaller, Laura Shaller, Karen Shaller, Charity Shaller, LeighAnn Blair, Danielle (Jeremy)  Shaller, Jessica Shaller and William and Kim Leary and five greatgrandchildren. She leaves behind sister-in-law, Elaine Landau, San Diego, Ca., special nieces and nephews, Ginnie, Leslie, Burton, George and John.  Mariam's family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to caregiver, Melissa Schampaign, Dr. Ramanujan and his caring staff and Lourdes Hospice.She was a graduate of West Chester State College and Cortland Teachers College. Mariam taught 2nd grade at John Harshaw Elementary School in the Chenango Forks Schools District for 18 years. She was a longtime member of the Church of the Good Shepherd and its Church Women's Group. Funeral services will be held 10:00 am, Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at the Anglican Church of the Good Shepherd, 356 Conklin Avenue, Binghamton with the Reverend Matthew Kennedy officiating. Interment will follow services in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. Family will receive friends at the DeMunn Funeral Home, 36 Conklin Avenue, Binghamton from 4:00 until 7:00 pm, Monday, April 25, 2011.
