                                                        Virginia Grippen                                                              of Endicott Virginia Grippen, age 100, of Ideal Senior Living Center in Endicott, NY, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City. Born Ellen Virginia Hook, August 28, 1910, daughter of Charles and Grace Hook, Virginia was a life-long resident of the Binghamton area. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Arthur M. Grippen; her son, Duane Grippen and a granddaughter, Theresa Grippen. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Clarence Hook, Bert Hook, Glenn Hook and Hayward Hook and by her sisters, Carrie Strong and Esther Ellington. She is survived by her son, Ross P. Grippen and her daughter-in-law, Diana Grippen, of Hamden, CT; her grandson and his wife, Stephen Grippen and Kelli Grippen of West Haven, CT; her daughter-in-law, Carol Grippen and granddaughter, Marcia Grippen, both of Binghamton, a granddaughter, Lori Coscia and her husband, Mike Coscia and their family Washington, DC. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Edna Hardman of Dayton, OH; her brothers, John Hook of Morehead, KY and Edward Hook of Bellingham, WA. Virginia worked as a proofreader at Vail-Ballou Press in Binghamton, NY until her retirement in 1980. She was a life-time member of the High Street United Methodist Church. She delighted in her family, was a joy to her family, and was a ray of sunshine to those who knew her. The family wants to thank the staff at Violet Court, Ideal Senior Living Center in Endicott for the wonderful care they gave her for 11 years, and the doctors and nurses in North Tower of Wilson Memorial Hospital who administered to her during her final illness.A memorial service will be held at DeMunn Funeral Home, 36 Conklin Ave., Binghamton, NY at 1:00 PM Monday afternoon, April 18, 2011. Burial will be in Floral Park Cemetery in Johnson City following the service.
