Marguerite “Betty” Riley of Binghamton
Marguerite “Betty” Riley, 97, passed away peacefully, Thursday, February 17, 2011. She was predeceased by her parents, Clarence and Marguerite Capwell, brother, Robert Capwell, sister, Dorothy Wheelock, first husband, Wendell O. Chantry, and stepson, David Chantry. Betty is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Frederick Riley, son, Thomas Chantry, Binghamton and daughter, Judy and David Clark, Binghamton. She leaves three grandsons, Tim and Anna Clark, Raleigh, N.C., Brian Clark, Middletown, NY and Michael Clark, Binghamton, stepsons, Wendell O. and Dorothy Chantry II, Binghamton and John Chantry, Binghamton and special niece, Mary Jane Sousa, Oneonta. Betty was a devoted wife and mother, who enjoyed keeping in touch with her extended family. Betty was very active at Conklin Avenue First Baptist Church where she sang alto in the church choir and belonged to the B&P class. Over the years, she has worked in the church office, at many church dinners, organized the library and coordinated Church World Service efforts. She was a quiet, gentle and faithful woman who will be missed. A memorial service will be held, 10:00 am, Saturday, February 26, 2011 at the Conklin Avenue First Baptist Church, 91 Baldwin Street, Binghamton the Reverend Russell Smith officiating. Family will receive friends at the church from 9:30 am until the time of services.
